You hired the smartest people in the room. The room is still on fire.

This page is for everyone who has paid a seven-figure invoice for a PowerPoint.

Field guide to the type

Six things you have already paid for.

Names withheld. You know who you hired.

The Deck

Ninety slides. Two insights. One of them was yours.

What I do instead

One page. It says what to do on Monday, who owns it, and what it costs to wait.

The Parachute

Three partners at the pitch. Two twenty-six-year-olds on Monday.

What I do instead

The person you met is the person who shows up. Every day, until it runs without me.

The Framework

Your problem, rearranged into a two-by-two you cannot act on.

What I do instead

Your problem, in your words, with the decision nobody wants to make circled in red.

The Hourglass

Phase one is a diagnostic. Phase two is a diagnostic of the diagnostic.

What I do instead

A thirty-day operating cadence on day one. Fixed fee wherever I can get it.

The Echo

They interviewed your people and told you what your people said. Invoice attached.

What I do instead

I tell you what your people are afraid to. Then I stay in the room while you hear it.

The Exit

Recommendations delivered. Implementation is out of scope.

What I do instead

I built a fourteen-hospital PMO in twenty-six weeks and sat in the interim seat until they hired the person who runs it today. Implementation is the scope.

The uncomfortable part

I am not against consultants. I am one.

Here is the difference, and it is not a methodology. When you hire me, your cause becomes my cause. I do not chase credit. I chase outcomes. If the portfolio finally delivers and my name never comes up in the board recap, that is a good day.

I am not the guy you call when you want a status deck. I am not the guy you call when you want the number softened. I am not the guy you call when the answer is already politically decided. I am the guy you call when the portfolio is stalling, the PMO is failing, and leadership needs a delivery system it will actually use.

The one I got wrong

I once walked into a health system arguing for a PMO with real authority, the ability to say no. The sponsor who hired me shut it down in month two. He knew the culture better than I did. I lost the argument, then I taught his version to my own team myself. It held because it was his. Try getting that story out of the people who bill by the slide.

Receipts

Numbers, since we are talking about invoices.

$754,700Fixed fee for a fourteen-hospital enterprise PMO
$754,481What it actually cost. 0.03% variance.
26 wksFrom nothing to launch
11 moUntil it stuck. I stayed for all of it.
65 vs 29Strategic initiatives the year after, against the year before

This is for you if

  • You have a portfolio and nobody can show it to you on one page.
  • Your transformation is eighteen months in and cannot say whether it is winning.
  • Your PMO produces status and nothing else.
  • You just got a proposal with a Phase 1 and you felt your wallet move.

Done paying for decks?

Thirty minutes. I will tell you if you need me. If you do not, you will leave with the one-page version anyway.
